Tax authority releases holiday sales data

Oct 8

CCTV recounts State Taxation Administration VAT-invoice figures for the National Day holiday: average daily sales in relevant service sectors rose 19.5% year on year. Sightseeing and entertainment grew more than 20%, budget-chain hotels 6.3%, homestays 12.8%, dining 9%, cultural and artistic services 20.9%, and sports services nearly 30%. The report describes tourism, gatherings, night markets and expanded cultural experiences as drivers. It also links pre-holiday trade-in subsidy disbursement, new digital products and replacement demand to household-appliance and audiovisual sales growth above 40% and communications-equipment sales more than doubling. These are sectoral invoice-based sales measures, not a total holiday spending estimate.

The State Taxation Administration releases National Day VAT-invoice results on October 8. CCTV reports daily service sales up 19.5%, sightseeing/entertainment 23.6%, dining 9%, cultural/arts activity 20.9% and sports 29.4%, with substantial growth in several goods categories. Sector/category comparisons retain their individual measures; they are not GDP or total unique-consumer growth.
