Brazil announces October fuel relief
Oct 9
TV Brasil reports an October 9 government package including more than R$7.5 billion in extraordinary credit to subsidize gasoline and diesel imports and a thirty-day extension of federal fuel-tax relief. It says the gasoline reduction increases from 63 to 89 centavos per litre, at a reported R$5.2 billion cost. The report connects oil above US$100 a barrel and import/supply pressures to the Middle East war. Bruno Moretti argues the measures protect prices and supplies and require oversight; Dario Durigan declines to guarantee a particular pump-price fall.
