Pezeshkian rejects coerced talks

Oct 9

Azarfam reports from Turkmenistan on Pezeshkian's first attendance as a special guest at the CIS summit and the Caspian environmental summit. Pezeshkian calls regional security indivisible and requires mutual respect, commitments and freedom from coercion for meaningful dialogue. At the Caspian meeting he describes falling water levels as an environmental, economic, social and security problem, lists consequences for ports, habitats and livelihoods, and emphasizes collective action and the Tehran Convention. The report says Iran proposes a long-term plan in seven areas without enumerating them. It lists bilateral meetings and a Russia-initiated Iran–Russia–Azerbaijan trilateral meeting; Araghchi says joint economic projects were discussed and agreed. An unidentified commentator discusses transport diplomacy. The report anticipates greater convergence without establishing completed projects or a diplomatic settlement.

Masoud Pezeshkian said dialogue can succeed only with mutual respect and commitments, without pressure or threats, and called negotiation under force imposition and coercion. DD placed the statement within continuing U.S.–Iran negotiations, alongside Iran's reported refusal to abandon enrichment or hand over its stockpile. No agreed settlement or sanctions relief is established. IRINN's October 9 on-scene CIS-summit report supplies the broader regional-security setup and the president's complete rejection of dialogue under coercion. It presents security as indivisible and cooperation as requiring mutual respect and commitments. The no-coercion statement is this summit occurrence, not another UN address, and no new settlement is reported.
