Erie, Delhi and Pillay Deaths, arrests, Nobel joy

Oct 10

TV Brasil's complete international roundup reports eight victims, including two children, and a dead gunman in Erie, Pennsylvania, for nine deaths overall. It places the incident in the early hours of Friday, says all deaths preceded police arrival, describes two women outside a house and further victims inside, and says causes remain under investigation; the anchor attributes a tragic-mass-shooting characterization to Governor Josh Shapiro. It next reports more than 2,000 protesters and a protest leader detained in New Delhi. The Cockroach movement demands the electoral authority chief's resignation over a voter-roll revision it alleges would benefit Narendra Modi's party; the election commission denies irregularities and says it is correcting improper registrations ahead of next year's state elections. The final account reports celebrations of Navi Pillay's Peace Prize in her Durban childhood neighbourhood and at a pro-Palestinian Cape Town march, citing national pride and her Gaza work. It recalls her court/UN career and a commission's 2025 Gaza genocide conclusion, retaining Israel's rejection of the conclusion and criticism of the award.

RTVE reports 2,000 people detained at the October 10 New Delhi protest led by the Cockroach youth movement, with its leader arrested on arrival at the airport amid a major police deployment. Protesters demand the election commissioner's resignation over alleged voter-roll manipulation favoring Modi. Their allegation remains unproven in this account. TV Brasil's October 10 roundup gives more than 2,000 detainees and also reports a detained protest leader. It attributes the alleged Modi-party benefit to protesters and retains the election commission's denial of irregularities and explanation that it is correcting improper registrations ahead of next year's state elections. Keep RTVE's 2,000 figure and airport-arrest detail attributed to its account.
