Pezeshkian addresses CIS as special guest

Oct 9

Azarfam reports from Turkmenistan on Pezeshkian's first attendance as a special guest at the CIS summit and the Caspian environmental summit. Pezeshkian calls regional security indivisible and requires mutual respect, commitments and freedom from coercion for meaningful dialogue. At the Caspian meeting he describes falling water levels as an environmental, economic, social and security problem, lists consequences for ports, habitats and livelihoods, and emphasizes collective action and the Tehran Convention. The report says Iran proposes a long-term plan in seven areas without enumerating them. It lists bilateral meetings and a Russia-initiated Iran–Russia–Azerbaijan trilateral meeting; Araghchi says joint economic projects were discussed and agreed. An unidentified commentator discusses transport diplomacy. The report anticipates greater convergence without establishing completed projects or a diplomatic settlement.

At the October 9 CIS summit in Turkmenistan, Pezeshkian welcomes Iran's first special-guest participation as an opportunity to strengthen ties and open cooperation with the bloc. IRINN's on-scene report presents this as regional engagement; its editorial interprets attendance as frustrating attempts to isolate Iran. These are participation and cooperation statements, without a completed new agreement.
