Abbas postpones Palestinian legislative elections

Oct 9–10

Ahmed interviews Gaza correspondent Mazen Abdul Karim and Jerusalem correspondent Amal Marar about field conditions one year into the ceasefire. Mazen reports a warned Israeli strike on a Rimal building 50–100 metres from his position, panic around displaced people's tents and a second strike on the same building heard and observed during the live conversation. He identifies the site near the start of Al-Nasr Street, Al-Shifa Hospital and the journalists' syndicate, cannot assess casualties and qualifies his interpretation that the second strike aimed to flatten the building. He describes escalating attacks, food and medical shortages, displacement, an attributed post-ceasefire toll of 1,490 including 324 children and more than 150 women, and stalled recovery plans. His brief references to other strikes and a fifteen-point August recovery plan remain contextual claims. Amal reports that day's settler violence in more than twenty West Bank localities, more than fifteen wounded in Deir Abu Mash'al and injuries in Beita and Al-Mughayyir; she alleges government arming and army protection, blocked olive harvesting and displacement. She describes the Palestinian Authority's financial and movement constraints, farmer support and its Security Council appeal, while saying those steps have not halted the attacks. Discussing the election postponement, Mazen describes Abbas and factions deciding that day; Amal explains real access and security obstacles, exclusion of the elections commission from Jerusalem and Gaza, and Palestinian criticism alleging factional power calculations. Ahmed ends Mazen's participation for safety and closes by recounting the live strike. Allegations, casualty figures, motives and political assessments remain attributed.

Abbas issues a decree postponing the legislative vote due in November to September 11, 2027, with presidential elections on the same date. DD India reports Israeli restrictions, security and Gaza humanitarian/reconstruction obstacles, and factional consultations including agreement by Fatah and Hamas. The decree's day is uncertain between October 9 and 10; these are scheduled polls, not a completed election. Oman TV's October 10 live interview adds Mazen Abdul Karim's description of Abbas/faction postponement as decided that day and Amal Marar's account of real checkpoints, Gaza blockade, commission exclusion from Jerusalem/Gaza and withheld PA money. Amal also reports Palestinian criticism invoking the 2021 postponement and alleging factional power calculations, with rival blocs preparing to compete with Fatah. Those are attributed explanations and criticism, not a proven sole motive; the existing October 9–10 decree-date uncertainty is retained pending primary verification.
