Chennai schedules Phase 2 metro opening

Oct 11

Ahead of Sunday's planned opening, DD India's Siddharth Bhardwaj interviews CMRL systems and operations director Manoj Goyal. Goyal says the initial Phase 2 portion covers about 15 kilometres and ten stations, joins the existing network at Vadapalani and will improve connections to the airport, rail stations and institutions. He describes the congested Bengaluru-road corridor and expected benefits for western Chennai. His Phase 2 total-cost and expected benefits are attributed; the account establishes a scheduled inauguration, not completed operation or measured travel-time savings.

Modi is scheduled to open the Poonamallee–Vadapalani stretch of Chennai Metro Phase 2 on October 11. DD India's preview describes the around-4,900-crore project and driverless-operation technology; CMRL's Manoj Goyal says the first portion covers about 15 kilometres and ten stations, joins the existing network and should improve west-Chennai links to the airport, rail stations and institutions. Inauguration and benefits remain prospective.
